The Journalist And Her Jailers

An excerpt from the film.

Luna Watfa, a journalist and former political prisoner living in exile in Germany, reports on the men charged with mass detention and torture in Bashar al-Assad's prisons, at the world's first trial against members of the Syrian regime, for crimes against humanity.

I developed the documentary, successfully pitched it to funders and commissioning executives; directed and self-shot the film; structured and wrote the film script and oversaw edit, grading, sound mix and delivery.

The film, which won German public broadcaster ARD’s Top Docs competition, broadcast at feature length on Channel 1 and streamed on their platform. It was nominated for Germany’s Human Rights Film Prize and the Roman Brodmann Prize for political and social documentary.
